RentMarker buys no data. Every figure comes from a federal agency or a research dataset published free of charge, and each one is listed below with the release it came from and the day it was fetched. If a number looks wrong, this table is where to start checking.

Attribution and terms

Census, BLS, HUD, FEMA and FHFA outputs are US government works. Zillow, Redfin and Realtor.com Economic Research publish downloadable research datasets; their attribution and source links are shown here and wherever their figures appear. No source dataset is redistributed in bulk. RentMarker publishes derived indicators and small chart extracts.

Known limits

• Rent coverage is thinner than price coverage. Zillow’s rent index reaches fewer metros and starts later, so some markets have a price history and no rent history.
• Payroll employment exists for about 431 metro areas; everywhere else uses resident employment, which is a different measure. Every page states which was used.
• County labor figures come from the annual BLS Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages. They count covered jobs at workplaces in the county, not employed residents, and arrive later than the monthly metro series.
• Federal sources do not share one geography vintage. Metro definitions changed in 2023 and different agencies adopted the change at different times, so the pipeline carries two code systems and joins each source through the correct one.
• Annual sources — income, hazard risk, rent standards — move once a year. Nightly rebuilds re-verify them; they do not make them newer.
